Noorani Qaida Online — Reading the Quran Starts Here

Noorani Qaida is where Quran reading begins. It takes someone who can't recognise a single Arabic letter and, over a few months of short one-to-one lessons, gets them reading words and verses with the right sounds. We teach it live, 7 days a week, to children from about age 4 and to adult beginners.

Here's our honest view: this little book is the most important course we teach. Get the letters and sounds right now and everything after it comes easily. Rush it, and every later stage gets harder. So our teachers don't rush it — a letter pronounced from the wrong part of the mouth gets corrected in the moment, every time, until the right sound is the habit.

Frequently asked questions

Everything parents and beginners ask about Noorani Qaida.

It's the standard beginner's primer used across the Muslim world to teach Quran reading from zero. It starts with single Arabic letters and builds, lesson by lesson, to reading full words and verses with correct sounds. Almost every fluent reciter you know started with this book.
Around 4 to 5 works well for most children, as soon as they can sit and focus for a short lesson. There's no upper limit. We teach plenty of adult beginners with the same book.
With regular classes, most students finish in 3 to 6 months. Children doing two or three short lessons a week sit comfortably in that range. After that they move straight into reading the Quran itself.
No, and you won't be reading in front of anyone except your own teacher. Classes are one-to-one. A good number of our students are adults in the UK who never had the chance as children. They tend to progress quickly.
Yes. Our teachers explain in clear English (Urdu is also available if you prefer) while teaching the Arabic sounds.
Students move on to reading the Quran with Tajweed. The rules they met in the Qaida get applied to real verses, and from there some continue to memorisation. The path is Qaida, then reading, then Tajweed refinement, then Hifz for those who want it.
